Subhash Ghai gets lifetime achievement award at DIFF 2014

New Delhi | Saturday, Dec 20 2014 : 'Showman' Subhash Ghai, one of the most loved filmmaker of Bollywood was today honoured with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the inauguration of third edition of Delhi International Film Festival (DIFF).

The eight-day long festival that will showcase 250 films from around 45 countries was inaugurated by eminent filmmaker Subhash Ghai and Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhaya. Mr Upadhaya has been associated with the festival since the very first edition.

"I am really thankful to DIFF for honouring me with this beautiful award. I can relate to the Qutub Minar in the trophy as this is the place where I used to go a lot from my home in Old Delhi. I was a simple boy who went to the city of dreams with an aim to become an actor but nothing happened in my favour. Then I started writing and ended up making the movie 'Kalicharan' and from there on I went to produce films," Ghai said upon receiving the honour.

Much elated by the growing popularity of the festival, Ghai spoke about the relevance of film festivals and film industry. "This is not just a film festival, it is a school, a workshop for cinema lovers. Movies are much more than entertainment. They describe the life we live and the culture we accept. Once I went to Ahmedabad Film Festival and then Chief Minister Narendra Modi was inaugurating the event. During his speech, he said he doesn't watch movies but once he went to France and saw a French movie without subtitles just to understand the French society. That is the power of cinema. I have never seen a politician who describes the importance of films so beautifully," he said.
